Okay, I cannot afford a good cordless drill, so now I am looking at electric (corded) drills. I'm sure that the same things apply to corded drills as to cordless drills. However, on corded drills it appears that the power is measured in amps rather than volts. How many amps do I need to drill through wood and seat crews without stripping them? I went to Lowe's and see that an 8 amp Dewalt corded drill is .00 dollars as compared to an 18 volt Dewalt which is approx. 0.00. I know corded is not as convenient as cordless, but my budget is .00, (so I also need to think about the cost of an indoor/outdoor extension cord.)
Okay, now I'm confused. Dan H says that his Ryobi and Black and Decker are used in daily construction, which I assume is pretty heavy and active use. However, other people are saying that Ryobi's and B&D's have plastic internal parts and won't hold up. Which info. is correct?

I have just bought a 24 volt cordless drill for 83 usd and it seems to work great.

But I'd like to know why a drill with the same features in another brands like Milwaukee or Dewalt are far more expensive.

I have a DeWalt 12v cordless drill that is on it's last leg and I'm shopping for a new drill. Home Depot has a Ryobi 7.2v drill for cheap, and I'm concerned if that will be powerful enough for home projects.

Does anyone have experience in this area and can you give me any advice before I make the purchase?

I will be using a Dewalt cordless drill.

I have a cave that Im trying to rig drops in and I was curious as to if I could use a standard cordless dewalt drill to drill a 2-3in deep hole in limestone. I usually drill the holes then hammer the bolts in with the anchor. Can I use a standard dewalt cordless drill for this job? How long you think the job will take to drill a hole that deep in that type of rock with that sorta drill? What kinda bit do I need?
I dont destroy caves i make them accessible

Help. The jaws of my old DeWalt reversible cordless hammerdrill were tightened down to the minimum, and are now "frozen" deep in the chuck and gear drive assembly. Holding the chuck and running the motor doesn't help. DeWalt's web site is worthless: no service contact e-mail or phone, no specs, no service FAQ's, just ads on who their dealers are! They don't want to hear from you unless you're buying something new!

Please pick a brand... I want to hear what people think about cordless drills and which brands they like better... I have a Makita and the I wasn't crazy about the power it provided, I had a Black and Decker and found i wasn't crazy about the operations of it, I have a new DeWalt and found that my battery dies really fast!. Remember the drill I am buying will be 18V no matter what brand it is... you can pick a drill from the list below or add in a brand that you like..

Black & Decker
DeWalt
Hitachi
Makita
Ryobi
Porter Cable

Please answer honestly and you may add reason in to why you chose the drill!! Any past experiences?

I notice more and more cordless drill that use the good-old NiCd Battery Packs have 1 hour charger.

Check out the following links:

As far as I know the recommended charge is 10% of the specified Amp capacity over 15 hours.

My question is, is this safe, and will the battery last?

Or do they have any special circuit to handle high current charge, and/or automatic shut off when full?

Buying a power drill for husbands b-day. Know I want a DeWalt but not sure which is best for him. Is there a big difference between 12 Volt and 9.5? It will get moderate use and the difference in price is ? My choices are DeWalt® Heavy Duty 3/8in 9.6V Cordless Drill/Driver Kit and DeWalt 12-Volt Variable Speed Cordless Drill/Driver Kit. Which should I get?

I want to buy my father a cordless powertool kit and my budget is between 5-150. The kit I have decided on has a cordless drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and flashlight (w/2 battery packs). I see names like Hitachi, Porter-Cable, Skil, Craftsman, and Ryobi, but I don't know which is the best. All fall within my price range. As for DeWalt and Mikita, I just don't have the money for those. So, can anyone tell me which brand they would choose, given my budget limts?
